Our story

We built what we needed ourselves

Kin Health started with a question: why do patients leave appointments knowing less than they should? The answer turned out to be solvable. So we built the solution.

The problem is simple. The damage is serious.

Research on patient recall consistently finds that people retain only a fraction of what their doctor tells them in a typical visit. For patients managing chronic conditions, multiple medications, or complex care plans, that gap is not a minor inconvenience. It means missed follow-ups, misremembered dosages, and family members making decisions based on incomplete information.

Kin Health was founded in Seattle in 2023 by a team that had watched this happen up close, in their own families. The product we built is the one we wished had existed: a quiet, private tool that sits in the background of every appointment and makes sure nothing gets lost.

What we believe

Patients deserve to understand their own care

Healthcare is complicated, but the conversation between a doctor and a patient should leave both people better informed. When it doesn't, the patient and their family pay the cost.

We believe the right tool doesn't try to replace that conversation. It preserves it. It makes it available to the people who need it, in a form they can actually use, at the moment they need it most.

That's what Kin Health is for.

The team

A small team with a focused mission

We are based in Seattle. Our focus is narrow by design: one product, one problem, built to be genuinely useful to the people who need it most.

Emily Carr
Emily Carr
Co-Founder and CEO

Emily spent years building patient-facing tools at the intersection of health informatics and product design. She started Kin because she watched a family member leave appointment after appointment with instructions they could not reliably follow. That experience made the problem feel solvable in a way that general-purpose voice tools were not solving.

Marcus Webb
Marcus Webb
Co-Founder and CTO

Marcus has spent years building real-time transcription and NLP systems in environments where accuracy is not optional. His background is in consequential speech processing, the kind where a misheard word has real effects. At Kin, he leads the medical speech model and the on-device recording architecture.

Leila Santos
Leila Santos
Head of Product

Leila has shipped consumer health apps for non-technical audiences, including patients managing chronic conditions. She is multilingual in English, Portuguese, and Spanish, which directly informs how Kin handles clarity for users for whom medical English is a second layer of difficulty. She leads product at Kin, including the caregiver sharing features and the family plan workflows.

Backing

Angel-backed and building for the long term

Kin Health is angel-backed by investors with backgrounds in consumer health and health information technology. We are not building toward an acquisition. We are building a tool people will use for a long time, across the kind of health decisions that matter most.
